Christmas is more than a festival of lights, gifts, and gatherings. It is the mystery of God becoming man. The very first Christmas was filled with wonder, not noise & with awe, not extravagance. Let us meditate on the Mystery, the Miracle, and the Meaning of Christmas.

1. The Mystery of Christmas – God’s Announcement

Luke 1:38 expresses “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” The angel Gabriel announced to Mary something beyond human logic that a virgin would conceive. Mary’s response was faith, not fear. This Christmas, God may call us into mysteries we cannot understand cause God works in Mysterious ways.

2. The Miracle of Christmas - God’s Accomplishment

Matthew 1:22–23 states that “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.” The miracle of Christmas is the Virgin Birth which is a supernatural act fulfilling ancient prophecy (Isaiah 7:14). In Jesus, divinity and humanity meet, the fully God, fully man, yet without sin. As a bridge connects two sides of a river, Christ connects Heaven and Earth.

3. The Meaning of Christmas - God’s Attraction

Luke 2:1–14 shows us that Christmas is not just about birth, but about God drawing people closer to Himself.

a) Drawing the Son of God

From the lap of His Heavenly Father to the lap of His earthly mother Mary (Luke 2:7; John 1:18).God became flesh and dwelt among us.

b) Drawing Angels

From heaven to earth to proclaim peace and good news to shepherds (Luke 2:8–9).

c) Drawing Shepherds

From the fields to the manger (Luke 2:15–16). The lowest in society became the first to see the Highest in glory.

d) Drawing Wisemen

From the Far East to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1–12). Their geographical movement became a faith movement.

The Mystery of Christmas shows us God’s plan.

The Miracle of Christmas shows us God’s power.

The Meaning of Christmas shows us God’s purpose.

The true Christmas Spirit is the Holy Spirit at work in the story of Jesus’ birth. From the manger in Bethlehem to our hearts today, the Spirit of God makes Christmas real and meaningful.

1. The Spirit Conceived Christ in the Virgin’s Womb

In Luke 1:35 we can see “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” The incarnation was not man’s idea, but God’s work through the Spirit. No human effort, no human plan but only divine power could bring forth Christ. The same Spirit who conceived Christ in Mary wants to form Christ in us (Galatians 4:19). Christmas begins not with human achievement, but with God’s grace.

2. The Spirit Revealed Christ to People’s Eyes

In Luke 2:25–32, Simeon, filled with the Spirit, recognized the infant Jesus as the “light for revelation to the Gentiles.” Many saw a baby, but only Spirit-filled eyes saw the Savior. The Spirit gives us perception to see Christ not just as a baby in a manger, but as King and Savior. Two people can look at the same sunrise, one sees only light, the other sees glory. The difference is perception.

3. The Spirit Brings Christ into the Sinner’s Heart

 John the Baptist filled with the Spirit before birth (Luke 1:15). Elizabeth filled with the Spirit and recognized the Lord (Luke 1:41). Zechariah filled with the Spirit and prophesied salvation (Luke 1:67). The Spirit doesn’t just reveal Christ externally, He brings Christ internally. True Christmas is not celebrated in the marketplace, but in the heart that receives Jesus.

The Christmas Spirit is the Holy Spirit, who:

1. Conceived Christ in the womb of Mary,

2. Revealed Christ to the eyes of Simeon,

3. Plants Christ in the hearts of all who believe.

The Holy Spirit is still at work today asking: Will you let Christ be conceived, revealed, and received in your life this Christmas?

Christmas is not just a date on the calendar, but the turning point in history. The birth of Jesus is unique that no other birth has divided history into B.C. and A.D.. In Luke 2, the angels announce to shepherds a message filled with mystery, majesty, and meaning. Let us reflect on the Significance of Christmas through three truths.

1. An Unprecedented Birth (Luke 1:35)

Jesus’ birth was unlike any other — conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin. No founder of any religion was born this way. His birth broke all natural laws. Many kings are born in palaces. Jesus, the King of kings, was born in poverty to show that His kingdom is not of this world. The unprecedented birth shows that our salvation is not man’s idea, but God’s initiative.

2. An Unexpected Surprise (Luke 2:8–9)

The first announcement did not come to kings or priests, but to shepherds, poor, unclean, marginalized people. God bypassed the high and mighty to reveal His glory to the humble. A royal birth today would make headlines in newspapers and television. But God’s headline of salvation was written in the sky and sung by angels to shepherds in the fields. Christmas reminds us that no one is too lowly, too sinful, or too forgotten for God’s love. Christ came for you.

3. An Unusual Sign (Luke 2:12)

The shepherds were told: “You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” Not a crown, but cloth. Not a palace, but a manger. Charles Spurgeon said: “We tremble to approach a throne; but we cannot fear to approach a manger.” He was born in a manger, approachable by shepherds. He died on a cross, approachable for sinners. From manger to cross, His life says: “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden." Anyone can approach Him freely — no barriers, no protocols. Christmas means the Savior is near and accessible.

The significance of Christmas is clear:

1. An Unprecedented Birth — God’s Son came supernaturally.

2. An Unexpected Surprise — God revealed Himself to the humble.

3. An Unusual Sign — God made Himself approachable to all.

This Christmas, let us not just hear the story, but enter it by approaching the manger, bowing at the cross, and rejoicing in the risen Savior.

நாம் வாழ்க்கையில் வெற்றி பெறவேண்டும் என்றால் சிலவற்றை இழந்துதான் ஆகவேண்டும். ஆம். அதில் நமக்கு நன்மை செய்யும் மனிதர்களும் உண்டு. நமக்கு தீமை செய்யும் மனிதர்களும் உண்டு. ஆனால் அவர்கள் செய்யும் விதம்தான் மாறுபடும். அதை நம்மால் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியாது. கீழ்க்கண்ட 7 மனிதர்களிடம் நாம் மிக ஜாக்கிரதையாக இருந்துவிட்டால் போதும். நம்மை அசைக்கவே முடியாது இது நிச்சயம் யார் அந்த ஏழு மனிதர்கள் இதோ இப்பதிவில் படியுங்கள்.

 1. உப்பு மூட்டை மனிதர்கள்: 

இந்த நபர்கள் உங்கள் ஆற்றலை குறைக்கிறார்கள், அதோடு உங்கள் நேரத்தையும் வீணடிப்பவர்கள். உங்கள் தேவைகளைக் கருத்தில் கொள்ளாமல் அவர்களுக்காக எல்லாவற்றையும் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று அவர்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் உங்கள் ஆற்றல், நேரம் மற்றும் வளங்களை சுரண்டுவோர். 

 2. கொசு மனிதர்கள்: 

இந்த நபர்கள் உங்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் எதிர்மறையை செலுத்தினாலும் உங்களிடமிருந்து நன்மைகளைப் பெற விரும்புகிறார்கள். அவர்கள் வழங்குவதற்கு நல்ல விசயம் எதுவும் அவர்களிடம் இருக்காது. ஆனால் எப்போதும் மற்றவர்களிடமிருந்து என்ன எடுக்க முடியும் என்பதிலேயே முறையாக இருப்பார்கள்.

 4. முதலை மனிதர்கள்: 

இவர்கள் உண்மையான நோக்கங்கள் இல்லாத பாசாங்கு மனிதர்கள். அவர்கள் உங்களின் ரகசியங்களை அறிந்து கொள்வதற்காக உங்களுடன் நெருங்கி பழகுவார்கள். மேலும் உங்களுக்குள் பிரச்சனை ஏற்படும்போது அந்த தகவலை உங்களுக்கு எதிராகப் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடிய கொடியவர்கள். அவர்கள் பொய்யர்கள், முதுகில் குத்துபவர்கள்.

5. பச்சோந்தி மனிதர்கள்:

சொர்கம்

 ஒரு பெரிய மனிதன். இந்த உலகத்தில் மிகவும் வசதியாக வாழ்ந்தான். ஒரு நாள் அவன் உலக வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொண்டு சொர்க்கத்துக்குப் போனான். அங்கே போன பிறகுதான் தெரிந்தது, சொர்க்கத்தின் வாசல் கதவு மூடி இருந்தது. மூடிய கதவின் முன்னால் போய் நின்றான். ‘‘இங்கே யாருமே இல்லையா?’’ என்று உரக்கக் கத்தினான். பதில் இல்லை.

‘‘நான் ஒரு பெரிய மனிதன் வந்திருக்கிறேன். கதவைத் திறந்து விடு’’.

சற்று நேரத்தில் சித்ரகுப்தன் அங்கே வந்தான். உடனே இந்தப் பெரிய மனிதன், தனது சட்டைப்பையிலிருந்து பத்து ரூபாய் நோட்டை எடுத்து அவன் கையில் திணித்தான். ‘‘இந்தா... இதை வெச்சுக்கோ, சீக்கிரம் கதவைத் திற... நான் உள்ளே போகணும்’’.

சித்ரகுப்தன் சிரித்தான்.

‘‘இதெல்லாம் உங்கள் பூலோக நடைமுறைகள், லஞ்சம் கொடுக்கறது, கதவைத் திறக்கச் சொல்றது... அதெல்லாம் இங்கே ஒண்ணும் எடுபடாது’’.

‘‘அப்படின்னா நான் எப்படி உள்ளே வர்றது?’’

‘‘சொர்க்கத்துலே நுழையறதுக்கான அனுமதிச் சீட்டு கொண்டு வந்திருக்கியா?’’

‘‘அனுமதிச் சீட்டா? அது எங்கே கிடைக்கும், சொல். எவ்வளவு செலவானாலும் பரவாயில்லை. வாங்கிக்கலாம்.’’

‘‘அதைக் காசு கொடுத்து வாங்க முடியாது’’.

‘‘வேறே எப்படி வாங்கறது?’’

‘‘அடுத்தவர்களுக்கு ஏதாவது உதவி செஞ்சாத்தான் அது கிடைக்கும்.’’

‘‘என்ன சொல்றே நீ?’’

‘‘பூலோகத்துலே நீ செய்யுற புண்ணிய காரியங்கள் தான் சொர்க்கத்துலே நுழையறதுக்கான அனுமதிச் சீட்டு’’.

‘‘இப்ப நான் உள்ளே வர என்ன வழி?’’

‘‘பூலோகத்துலே நீ யாருக்காவது... ஏதாவது உதவி செஞ்சிருக்கியா?’’

பெரிய மனிதன் ரொம்ப நேரம் யோசித்தான். பிறகு சொன்னான்: ‘‘ஒரு முறை ஒரு கிழவிக்கு 10 காசு தானம் கொடுத்திருக்கேன். அப்புறம் இன்னொரு நாள் ஓர் அநாதைப் பையனுக்கு ஐந்து காசு கொடுத்திருக்கேன்.’’

‘‘கொஞ்சம் பொறு’’ என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு சித்ரகுப்தன் உள்ளே போனான். கொஞ்ச நேரம் கழித்து வெளியே வந்தான். ‘‘உள்ளே போய் சொர்க்கத்தின் தலைவர்கிட்டே உனது கதையைச் சொன்னேன். அவர் உடனே உத்தரவு போட்டுட்டார்’’.

‘‘என்ன உத்தரவு?’’

‘‘அந்தப் பதினஞ்சு காசை உன்கிட்டே திருப்பிக் கொடுத்துடச் சொன்னார்’’.

‘‘அப்புறம்?’’

‘‘உன்னை நரகத்துக்கே அனுப்பி வச்சுடச் சொன்னார்’’. பெரிய மனிதன் மயங்கி விழுந்தான்.

ஆன்மிக உலகில் பயணம் செய்கிறவர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டிய ஒரு முக்கியமான பாடம் இது . காசு கொடுத்து சொர்க்கத்தை வாங்க முடியாது. ஆனால், கருணையைக் கொடுத்து அதைச் சுலபமாக வாங்க முடியும்.
