Trinitatis

Trinitatis
~~~~~~
On the Sunday after Pentecost we celebrate Trinitatis, the festival of the Holy Trinity. This feast goes back to the middle age and Martin Luther kept it. We are calling the following Sundays as Sundays after Trinity. When in the ancient church the Christian Creeds were formulated many theological disputes took place how to express the one God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. How was the relationship between them? The Bible does not formulate a dogma of the  Holy Trinity. Yet in the Old Testament prefiguration could be found and the New Testament witnesses the three persons of God. The Jews and the Muslims who reject Jesus as Saviour cannot understand the Holy Trinity and accuse the Christians sometimes as believers in three gods. The Holy Trinity is a mystery but the activities of the three fold God are very clear : God the Father is the Creator, Jesus Christ the Son is the Saviour, the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier. The selected Psalm for this Sunday is Ps.99 where we read the three fold Holy like the Trishagion of the Seraphim in Isaiah 6:3.
Let us pray with Bishop Johnson:
O Triune God, I surrender my reasoning power that you have given me, so that it may be purified to grasp Your presence in my life. Amen.
- E.M. Siebert Johnson,
w/o. Rt.Rev.Dr.Gnanabaranam Johnson,
IX Bishop of Tranquebar.
