Trinity Sunday - 4

June 7 , 2020 is called as the Trinity Sunday. Tertullian invented the word " Trinity "( Latin : "Trinitas"). Tertullian used the Latin term" Persona " to translate the Greek word " hypostasis " which is translated into English as " person." The term persona literally means " a mask, " such as that worn by an actor in a Roman drama. At the time of Tertullian, actors wore masks to allow the audiences to understand which of the different characters in the drama they were playing. The term persona thus came to have a developed meaning, along the lines of " the role that someone is playing." It is quite possible that Tertullian wanted his readers to understand the idea of " one substance, three persons" to mean that the one God played three distinct yet related roles in the great drama of human redemption. Here "Substance" is what three persons of the Trinity have in common. Six models were used to explain the Trinity : The Cappadocians, Augustine of Hippo, Karl Barth, Karl Rahner, Robert Jenson and John Macquarrie. The two heresies of Trinity are Modalism and Tritheism. According to Modalism one God is the Father who became the Son and later who became the Holy Spirit. In Tritheism there are three gods in the Trinity. Both Modalism and Tritheism are wrong teachings.
