Jigarthanda

Let us pray. May the Words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be acceptable to you O Rock and Redeemer.

Recently I saw a movie with my friends. Name of the movie is Jigarthanda. The main concept of that movie is hot turning into cool and  cool turning into hot. i.e The villan character is repenting into hero charcter and vice versa. Repentance is the main concept of the movie which was well appreciated by many. This is more related to my short devotion which  also tells about “Repentance”

Exactly two weeks before I kept my bag in my class room and went for lunch. When I came back a big shock was waiting for me where my bag was missing which has my bank pass book, class notes, assignments and some other valuable things. First I thought someone was playing with me. But later I realized it was stolen purposely. But I don’t know what’s their purpose is.

My dad used to tell me a story, “ Once there were two children playing. One was rich and other was poor. The rich boy told his friend see there is a farmer coming towards the river he will leave his slippers here and get into this river. At that time we can take and hide his slippers somewhere. So he will come and search for it. Watching that will be really funny. For that, the poor boy replied, no I have a better idea you have more money in your pocket. Let us place a 50rs note over that slipper, wait and watch his reaction. And hence they did so. After sometime the farmer came near his slippers and to his surprise he saw a 50rs note on it. He turned around and nobody was near. So he took that money and looked above and said, Lord just now I prayed I don’t have money for my lunch but you gave money for my dinner also. God you are double great!

II chorinthians chapter 12 verses 20 and 21 is more relevant to the above concept. Here Paul says like this I fear that there may perhaps be quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit and disorder. We live in a contemporary world, bible was written 2000 years ago, we live in 2014, which is much much more different from that of situation which paul wrote. The world which we live today, we should be very attentive. Think about my incident which happened here, that too in a theological college. So think about the world outside this theological college. People used to speak bad about you in back. People used to steal or  spoil your name. People used to gossip about you, people used to fool around you.

Last verse of this passage conveys about repentance. There are two hearts for a person. Cool  heart and hot heart. Both hearts are inside the same person. It is the choice of that person to be either cool or hot.

The story which I said has two endings. One is, if the boy took the slippers then the reaction of the farmer would be different, that will be “I don’t even have money for my lunch but you stole my slippers”. But the second ending is, he got 50rs and praised the god. Let our actions be like the second ending.  Let people see god through our thoughts and deeds.

Let us pray , dear lord, help us to discern our neighbor’s heart and help us to be very attentive and make us to see you in us. May god bless these words. Amen!
