The
(Hostility) Shawshank (Hospitality) Redemption
One of the finest prison of all time is the Shawshank redemption. Not
only about prison genre but out of all the movies IMBD ranked this movie has no
1 voted by people all over the world. It is based on the short novel written by
Stephen King named “Rita Hayworth and shawshank redemption” which is present in
the novel “Different seasons “. This
movies carries heavy messages and themes one of the theme which I would like to
concentrate is “hostility to hospitality”
Plot
Andy Dufresne, the vice-president
for a Bank was accused for murdering his
wife and her lover. So he was ordered to serve two life sentences back to back
in shawshank state prison.
Each of these topics can lead to
variety of discussion but I would like to deal with the topic “from hostility
to hospitality” in this movie.
Andy defrain is the lead character
of this movie where the movie begins with andy entering in shawnshank in 1947
as s life sentence prisoner.
Prison
is normally a place of hostility where he met many crooked people like warden
(Mr. Norton) police, gay torture, etc. that gives him mental pressure,
frustration, etc. but inspite of that he
gets a friendly atmosphere with friends like “red” (who is the 2nd
leading role ). This comes out with a interesting topic of hospitality within
hostility.
Usually
if a prisoner is released out of prison he will be very happy but here brooks,
an old man who spends his 75% of his life in
prison and considered to be one of the key person for shawshak’s library
is totally unhappy for releasing him out of the prison. Here he realizes life
outside prison is something which worst than living in prison. So he commits suicide in his room leaving a
note “Brooks was here”
Hope plays a main role in the life
of a prisoner. This has been the main concept of this movie where as the
director/author tries to achieve the viewer/reader to come across the river of
hope. The characters from hostility to
hospitality through hope. Andy hopes
that he will lead a happy life, free
form everything when re gives a chisel to him.
Andy’s
escape plan was not just breakin the cell in just 20 mins and escape from that
jail just like that.
Sometimes
in our life we may also connect the
crisis of characters in shawshank redemption like
ü Andy
who was convicted and punished for his non-mistake
ü Red’s
repentance was not visible to officers who investigate him till the end.
ü Young
guy tommy who come to help for andy but had to sacrifice his own life for Andy.
ü The
warden who is very well versed in bile, suicides himself for caught red handed
in corruption.
ü A
small chisel can even change the life of man
ü The
game of chess which makes a man to Think critically and solve his life problem
ü The
Bible can save a man from many great problem. Especially when warden comes to
know that he hides his chisel but he memorized the bible which he uses to
escape from warden.
ü Not
everyone inside the prison were cruel and hard. They too have heard and onely
situation made them as a prisoner.
ü Andy
tries to handle his time and pressure
