What is the Protestant view on All Souls Day?
1) We don't pray for the departed as the Roman Catholic and some Anglo Catholic believers do.
2) The departed are in God's hand and they don't need our prayers
(Heb 9:27).
3) We don't believe in Purgatory, the place of purging. (There are differing interpretations for 1 Pet 3:19).
However, the idea of Purgatory helps to avoid eternal damnation which is against God's eternal loving nature.
It's a question of debate.
4) We are thankful to God for those who departed and we remember their life and witness.
5) We can have a prayer at the grave or at home and it could be a 'Thanksgiving Prayer' as a family.
6) We don't worship the monument grave. It's only a place of remembrance.
7) It's good to renovate it once a year as a place to remember.
8) Heb 13:7: Remember, Consider and Follow.
