Jubilate

JUBILATE
~~~~~~
The third Sunday after Easter has the name Jubilate. It means rejoice, shout with joy. Psalm 126 assigned for this Sunday speaks about the liberation from Babylon and that this salvation has to continue. The Gospel of the day John 16:16-22 gives witness that the sadness will be changed into joy. Jubilate! In our situation with the Corona virus this topic seems not to be suitable for us. Thinking about the sick and the dying and the economic hardships of many mourning seems to be the right attitude. Yet the Sunday Jubilate reminds us of Easter. Christ's victory over death is valued in all situations. It is imperishable, everlasting. Paul and Silas were praising the Lord in jail. Young Hus was singing praises in the midst of flames. Martin Luther names the praise God as one of the seven marks of the church. With the Jubilate the congregation joins the choir of the angels.
      Let us thank God for all men and women who serve the sick ones, who help those in need and those who plan wisely in the present calamity. In the midst of our praise let us pray: Lord, have mercy on us and the world You have created.
