K. Subba Rao (1912-1981)
Early Life
Subba Rao was born in 1912 to a Kamma caste (high caste) agricultural family (land Lord) in the Godavari district of Andra Pradesh. His education was sporadic due to habits of skipping school in favour of sport and mischief making. From an early age Subba Rao rebelled against the Hindu religion. Some of his early mischief was related to his rejection of religion. He stole from the temple to buy cigarettes and kick idol to see if it was true that doing so made one blind. At the age of sixteen he was sent to Calcutta and passed his matriculation there, and then finish his B.A in first class in 1930 from the city college. And got married to Nagendramma in 1937 but they had no children. In 1939 he wrote a telegu booklet on international conditions and was later appointed as lecturer and publicity writer of the National war front. In this regard he was awarded the title Rao Saheb.
Vision of Christ
In broken health Subba Rao have a vision of Christ in 1942, he saw a dazzling light and heard a voice but recall no particular experience which have prepared the vision. But did not want to speak about the vision of Christ, because of his caste pride. Rao finally acknowledge that there was power in the name of Christ and began to minister to those who sought help.
Relating to the Christian Church
Shubba Rao often went to the Churches and found merely a senseless ceremonial. He feels that for those who have been Baptist by the spirit, water-baptism is a meaningless and even harmful ceremonial. Subba Rao would not be baptized, and he regularly and vehemently taught that baptism is just one more senseless ceremony. He has no wish whatever to be associated with the visible organization of the church, feeling that it is enough to be one with Christ, and to live out that unity in service others.
